Lorna completed a BSc(Hons) degree in Chemistry with Pharmacology at St Andrews University in 2005 and continued at St Andrews University to study for a PhD in Organic Chemistry with Dr R. Alan Aitken. The degree was awarded in 2010 with a thesis titled “New gas-phase cascade reactions of stabilising phosphorus ylides leading to ring-fused indoles and quinolines“. Moving away from organic synthesis, Lorna started at Edinburgh University in 2011 as NMR instrument technician, overseeing the day-to-day running of the NMR facility and providing support to the users to maximise the use of NMR in their projects.
