Dr. Afsar Khan has seventeen years of broad-based local and international academic and research experience in the field of Natural Product Chemistry. Dr. Khan completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Viqar Uddin Ahmad in 2009 at H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi and joined the Department of Chemistry, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad Campus as Assistant Professor in the same year. He had a short research visit at Universität Rostock, Germany in 2012 D.A.A.D. funding. During 2015---2016, he worked as a visiting scientist at Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China via CAS-PIFI fellowship. He got the “Advanced NMR Methods” training from Bruker Switzerland AG at Fällanden, Switzerland in 2019.
Until now, a Postdoc fellow from Nigeria and two partial-PhD fellows from Cameroon have completed their work under the supervision of Dr. Khan via TWAS-CIIT funding. Two PhD and 15 MS scholars have successfully completed their degrees under the supervision of Dr. Afsar Khan. Dr. Khan could manage to publish 123 research articles in international journals of repute with cumulative impact factor of 225.
He received Best Researcher Award of the Department of Chemistry in 2017 and Best Researcher Award of Abbottabad Campus in 2018. He is the recipient of PCST research productivity award for 4 times. He also received two HEC NRPU of worth Rs. 11.9 million. He is an executive member of the Chemical Society of Pakistan since 2010. Currently, Dr. Afsar Khan is working as Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry, COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus. He is the Head of Natural Product Chemistry Research Group and the Incharge of NMR Spectroscopy Lab.
